Instead of the traditional East vs. West format, this year’s NBA All-Star Game rosters will be picked by captains who were voted by fans. The fans voted on Lebron James for captain of the East, and Stephen Curry for the West. The draft will not be televised and the order of the picks will not be revealed. The All-Stars have already been voted on and are:
Reserves: Kristaps Porzingis, Victor Oladipo, Kyle Lowry, John Wall, Bradley Beal, Kevin Love, Al Horford, Russell Westbrook, Jimmy Butler, Karl-Anthony Towns, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Lamarcus Aldridge, Damian LillardStarters: Lebron James (captain), Stephen Curry (captain), Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid, Demar Derozan, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, Demarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis, and James Harden.
Our Starter Picks:
Hollman (as Lebron James): Kevin Durant
While I’m not normally a big KD fan, it’s absurd to think he’s not a top 3 player in the world. With this pick, my team already has the two best players in the league
David (as Steph Curry): Giannis Antetokounmpo
Steph has publicly said he doesn’t want to be dunked on again so he needs to pick Giannis ASAP.
Hollman/Lebron: James Harden
James Harden is having another career season. His ability to both score and pass at extremely high levels will likely get him the 2018 NBA MVP award.
David/Steph: Anthony Davis
I’m going to start having some matchup problems unless I take a big man here. Plus, can’t go wrong with last year’s ASG MVP.
Hollman/Lebron: Demarcus Cousins
While both KD and Lebron are over 6’8, my team needed a true big man. Cousins brings great energy and strength to my team.
David/Steph: Joel Embiid
You can’t pick someone more fun than Jo-Jo. Plus, with this pick, my squad is about to terrorize Hollman in terms of size.
Hollman/Lebron: Kyrie Irving
I’m picking Kyrie because he is one of best scoring point guards we have seen in a while. This probably won’t happen, but it would be cool if Lebron picked Kyrie. The former teammates had some issues this offseason which is sure to bring drama to All-Star Weekend.
David/Steph: Demar Derozan
Ok Hollman, I don’t think Lebron would take Kyrie but I’ll give you a pass. Derozan is having a career year and can score on anybody. That rounds out the starters.
Hollman/Lebron: Russell Westbrook
I’m taking the reigning league MVP. Westbrook has a history of playing well in All-Star games and he’ll definitely show up for this game.
David/Steph: John Wall
Now I need someone to match up with Russ in terms of speed. That leaves a grand total of Usain Bolt and John Wall. I’ll take Wall for basketball purposes.
Hollman/Lebron: Jimmy Butler
Jimmy G. Buckets (the G stands for gets) is one of the best scorers in the league, and in the running for most fun guy to have on a team.
David/Steph: Kristaps Porzingis
If Hollman really isn’t going to take any big guys I will. Porzingod is 7’3” and can score on anybody.
Hollman/Lebron: Klay Thompson
Playing on a team with three other All-Stars, his points per game may not show it, but Klay is one of the best pure shooters in the league.
David/Steph: Damian Lillard
Dame Dolla can shoot with the best of them, and is probably the best scorer on the board at this point.
Hollman/Lebron: Victor Oladipo
He almost has Most Improved Player for this season locked up. Dipo is at 24 points per game up from 16 last year.
David/Steph: Bradley Beal
I have to take the hometown hero. Plus I already have Porzingis and I can’t have this happening to any of my players.
Hollman/Lebron: Lamarcus Aldridge
With no Kawhi Leonard, Aldridge has been one of the most efficient players in the league for the Spurs. Plus it’s about time I take a big man.
David/Steph: Karl-Anthony Towns
Hollman I’m going to have to assume you forgot about him or something. I have enough big men so I was going to leave KAT for you but it’s gone too far. One of the league’s top rebounders and scorers.
Hollman/Lebron: Draymond Green
Possibly the best all-around player in the league, and can play any position.
David/Steph: Kyle Lowry
I have to have the K-Low/Derozan chemistry.
Hollman/Lebron: Kevin Love
He hasn’t been playing great as of late, but he’s an experienced All-Star, and a much better scorer than Al Horford who is the only other player left.
David/Steph: Al Horford
Last pick. He’s really efficient, but not all that exciting, so not an All-Star Game favorite.
That rounds it out. Here are the teams:
